| next show: Sat July 5 @ The Broadway Oyster Bar |

| News Updated 6-26-08 Well summer is here and the LBB is busy as can be. We are excited to be playing a few new venues. We have added Tony's on Top in St. Charles at least twice a month. We are also playing several post Cardinals games at the Broadway Oyster Bar, including our second Cards/Cubs game coming up next weekend. As the summer rolls along, we will be continuing our regular gigs at The Grizzly, RT Weilers, The Shamrock Pub, and the like, as well as adding Llywelyns Pub in Soualard later in the summer. We are adding songs and switching up the vibe with each show. Due to some scheduling conflicts with each member, we have had a rotating door at the guitar slots with our friends Perry Woods and Brian Sax filling in on many dates. This chances the feel and the setlists each night making it more and more exciting every time we play. Get out soon and beat the heat with a fun night of drinks, jams, and fun w/ us soon. We hope everyone had a great holiday season. We kicked off the season with the second annual Phillip-A-Looza. This year, proceeds went to benefit the ALS Association -St. Louis Regional Chapter. We tripled last years proceeds and with a successful show, we learned even more about how to do something this special for next year. The evening was a blast. Jakes Leg warmed up the crowd with an accoustic set of Grateful Dead nuggets which featured "sit ins" from Phil on Harp on "Big Boss Man" and Randy on keys on "Eyes of the World". Madahoochi took the stage next with their patented blend of rock, jam, funk and won over a ton of new fans and friends. Their set featured all of their top songs and demonstrated why they are considered by many to be the areas top jamband. . NEWS ARCHIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PHILLIP-A-LOOZA SATURDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2006 A SMASHING SUCCESS Wow..... What a night. First of all, thank you to all of you who took part in this wonderful evening. It was a tremendous success. The Lucas School House was a phenomenal venue that we look forward to playing many more times. We raised over $2500 for the Packard Research Center.... and we had blast doing it. We had some tremendous auction items that sold to help raise money. The food was tremendous. We want to thank Joanies Pizza, McGurks Irish Pub, The Juniper Grill, and Nortons Cafe for donating some awesome food. The lineup was awesome. Salt of the Earth captured our attention early on with their blend of roots acoustic folk, blues, and roots music. They were a sonic joy to witness. I can't recomend them enough. They were a perfect act to start the night with. The depth of their music combined with their tight presentation was something to relish. We took the stage next. We were excited as could be. Our setlist was jam> Feelin Alright Southbound Can't You See One Way Out Them Changes Voodoo Chile (With Tony Campanella) Redhouse (With Tony Campanella) Folsom Prison Superstitious> Bass Jam> Space Jam> Superstious Lovelight We had an absolute blast. Everyone played their tails off and we were especially honored to be able to have Tony play on the Hendrix tunes in the middle. We worked our dirty mix of southern blues rock to a stomping fun crowd who shook, stomped, and shimmied throughout the set. Jim, Keith, and Brent all blistered solos all over the place, spreading our version of guitar gospel to our family and friends. 56 Hope Road took to the stage around 9:10. They owned the Lucas. Their loyal fans turned out in throngs to support our friends from Chicago. They didn't disappoint, bringing out favorites like Rock Bottom Bakery, Howard, and Carolina (which featured a surprise Harmonica guest in Phil, who took to the song with zest.) They kept the crowd moving, and picked up a lot of new fans and friends along the way. Easily flowing from pop-funk to acoustic jam and back again, they were the surprise hi-light for many in attendance. They also donated 50% of their merchandising proceeds to the Packard Center. If you haven't seen them, make it a priority. Tony Campanella Band closed the show with their power trio attack of psychadelic blues power jam. Tony showed the fans in attendance why he is considered to be one of the top players in town. They blew peoples minds with originals and covers including Sympathy For the Devil, Dazed and Confused, and a slew of SRV tunes. Many a jaw was left hanging as they unfurled their stew of guitar power. They also made Phil's night by inviting him up on stage to belt out the chorus to Whipping Post. As always, we were in awe of their performance. Later in the evening, after each band played it's set, we were excited to take part in the "All-Star Jam." The jam started with Phil, Keith, Brent, Tony, Bike, and Terry (both from Tony's band) throwing down on Crossroads. The same mix tackled and ripped up Pride and Joy for a marathon guitar blitz. After that, a different lineup took the stage, with Donnie, Jim, and Phil teaming up with Marcus and Greg from 56 Hope Road for a phenomenal jammed out Dead meets Allman Brothers version of Franklins Tower . The recordings should be available soon and we will post the highlights here. If you are interested in contributing to the Packard Center, please click on the link below. If you would like a T-Shirt, see Phil at the next LB show. All proceeds from the T's go to the Packard center as well. If not, make sure to plan on attending Phillip-A-Looza next year, as it will surely grow and grow. Be sure to check out the pics from Phillip-A-Looza in the Pic section. -Although we didn't play too often over the first part of the summer, when we have, we have thrown down. There have been some exciting moments over the past few shows. We have grown more and more. Victor Aguilar (percussion) has been playing more and more with us. He adds a lot to the mix. -Also, since the last update, we have had the pleasure of having Tony Campanella sit in and jam with us at 1860's during one of our April shows. Since then, Tony has had Keith and I (Phil) as guests on a few occasions as well. We really enjoy the honor of being able to share the music with such an outstanding player. -In April, we were fortunate enough to share the stage at RT Weilers with two other local music legends...Mr. Jim Rossi (Trumpet) and Mr. Stewart Williams (Sax). Some of you might know these two outstanding musicians from their days as the core of Johnny Johnson's Band. They have also played with Chuck Berry and countless other groups. Most recently, they both shared the stage (7-08-06) with Bob Weir and Ratdog at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. As some of you may know, Weir (Guitarist and co-founding member of the Grateful Dead) started his blues based band Ratdog in the early 90's. For a brief period of time, Johnson was the keyboardist in this band. On many occasions, he would have Rossi and Williams sit in with Weir in the different encarnations of the Dead. We were very honored that the two of them chose to drop in on our little show in St. Charles. You should have seen the crowd's faces as they came back to the stage following Donnie's bass jam half way through "Superstitious." They added their trade mark sound and style to the following tunes "We Want the Funk" > "Thankyoufalettinmebemyself"> "Superstitious reprise" and "Turn On Your Lovelight." It was quite an occasion and we look forward to sharing the stage with them again in the near future. - We have also had the pleasure of sharing the stage on 3 different occasions with the our friends from Madahoochi. Scott Rockwood has played sick guitar and sang on Dizzy Galespie's "Barbados Carnival> Call Me Al" and "Franklins Tower" and others... Joe Winze sang and added bizzaro percussion during "Superstitious> Bass> Drums" at 1860's.... Sean Hartung belted out a dead on MEAN version of "Immigrant Song" on that same night. We also welcomed Brian Sax (Madahoochi Colaborator) to the stage at the Rookies Biker Poker Run a few weeks ago. Brian layed down some viscious guitar as he filled in for Jim (who was swamped by wedding season) and did an outstanding job. - As you can tell, we love to have friends drop by and sit in. So far, it has produced nothing but magic. And there is more on the way throughout the fall. |
